2020: Stay Awake

“Ok,” I say to Little Sister in excited tones, “there’s something I need you to do for me in 2020.”

“What?” she asks with a mixture of curiosity and, well, hesitancy (which is fair because I’ve made some interesting requests over the years).

I continue, “Randomly in 2020, when it occurs to you for no apparent reason, I want you to text me the words STAY AWAKE.” 

<silence>

“The angels will take care of it,” I offer. “When you think of it, that’s them. Just do it. Even if it seems random to you.”

“Ooookaaaaayyy,” she says in her best “I’m trying” Little Sister voice. “But why? What does that mean?”

My friends, I’m going to tell you what I told Little Sister:

Here’s the thing. I spent a year (2019) reminding you (and myself) that we can do hard things. And we can. That’s established. 

We are strong. We know we are Souls, and we know how to connect to our God. We know how to get help. We’ve done it. That’s. Established.

SOWHYOHWHY do we sometimes feel

anxious
depressed
discouraged
lost

And, sure, we can talk about The Adversary, our lower self, our ego self, our fallen self – BUT ISN’T THAT THE POINT? If we can talk about it (and we can, in great detail) then WE KNOW all about those things too and the ways they can trip us and trick us.

So if we know all about it, then WHYOHWHY do we sometimes (often?) feel

anxious
depressed
discouraged
lost

WHYOHWHY?

I have no idea.

LOL Tricked ya. I do have an idea. Here it is:

We’re sleepyheads. 

(Not what you expected? Stay with me.)

My. Friends. 
We know the things. 
All of them.

We know who and what we are, we know who we belong to and we know why we’re here.

BUT WE KEEP FALLING ASLEEP.

[Sidebar: This falling asleep thing has been going on at least since Gethsemane.]

It’s not fancy or complicated or hard –
It’s simple and easy and clean. 
It’s always a choice between these two conditions:

AWAKE or ASLEEP.

So let’s help each other.
Let’s help each other stay awake.
You remind me and I’ll remind you and 
FINALLY WE CAN GET ON WITH IT:

Creating a world where we are fully awake Souls-who-are-also-human, living and moving and having our being right here, right now, on planet earth BUT ALSO right here, right now, in the Kingdom of God.

So I’m declaring it. I’m declaring 2020 our STAY AWAKE year.

I’ll get us started.

<Claps hands slowly two times then shouts:>

WAKE. UP.
